[Little Miss Amelia] Skagit County, WA | Child Photographer

Last April, I visited the “D” family home for my very first photo session of three-month old Amelia. We turned the living room into a makeshift studio, using the abundant window light. Really, how could I go wrong with such a sweet, beautiful baby? Amelia was wide-eyed and cooperative for her portraits; we even managed to get in a few photos with her big brother, mom and dad.

Dorothy - 8 Days New | Newborn Photographer | Skagit County, WA

I can't begin to describe how thrilled (and ready!) I was to do my first newborn session! I was very prepared and excited to preserve these precious memories for little Dorothy and her parents. We did Dorothy's session eight days after her birth. For those who don't know, newborn sessions are best at around five to ten days after birth . . . they are only this young once! At three months, they’re all baby, and there’s not much left to remind you of the newborn they once were--except pictures.

Beautiful Urban, Vintage and Boho Styled Shoots | Holli True Workshop

This post is long overdue; I'm so excited to share these photos with everyone! Last April, I attended a photography workshop hosted by the incredible Holli True, located in Eugene, Oregon. For two full days, I collaborated with five other photographers in hands-on learning for our photography businesses.

Karen and Raye | Skagit County Wedding Photographer

I have known Karen for several years, since we attend the same church together. She is an incredible woman, the mother of nine (and caretaker of more), an artist and craftsperson, a lover of beauty (and of God)--there are so many things I could say about her, but the thing that stands out the most to me is Karen's heart.

Keeping legacies | Family Photographer | Skagit County, WA

I've shared before how much I have a passion for keeping memories . . . seems like I have always gravitated to those things, even as a kid.Example: when I was a kid, if one of our pets died, it was traumatizing to me. I was not able to move through my grief until I'd done something to memorialize my beloved furry friend. Sometimes it was in the form of a poem, other times a childlike, makeshift gravestone. Either way, I was compelled to find a way to keep their memory alive.

Photo Lush Photography Conference | Heritage Flight Museum | Vintage Photo Shoot | Skagit County Photographer

I have been ‘chomping at the bit' to attend a photography conference for quite some time. Not only am I interested in the technical information I might add to my repertoire, but I also want to get to know some of my fellow photographers in the Skagit/Whatcom county areas. So, a month ago, I paid a very nominal fee to attend a photography conference in March called Photo Lush in Bellingham, Washington.

Nichole & Kodie's Skagit Valley Casino Resort Wedding | Skagit County Wedding Photographer

I am w-a-a-y-y past due in blogging Nichole and Kodie's wedding! I feel bad about that, but when the flu bug takes a big bite out of your life, whaddya gonna do? On December 29th, 2012, I was honored to take wedding and reception photos for Nichole and Kodie, who (as you will see), are one heckuva gorgeous couple! Their wedding took place at the beautiful Skagit Valley Casino Resort, which was still decorated with twinkling Christmas lights, adding to the festive and gorgeous atmosphere.

My love affair with Beauty | Skagit County Photographer

It's no secret to anyone who knows me that I'm in the process of getting my photography business off the ground, mostly since last September. Sometimes I get discouraged that it isn't happening fast enough, but then I have to remind myself that, a little over a year ago, I couldn't have imagined doing the photo shoots I've done the last few months. So, onward and upward, I say!

The Personal Category | Skagit County Photographer

Here's a first: I just created a “Personal" category for this blog (for this entry). Everyone says that photographers should blog. So, I started this blog. I didn't really commit to it, though, until very recently. You see, I have another blog, a personal blog, that I started back in 2008 when I was going through breast cancer treatment. Never, in a million years, did I think I would be a blogger, but it turned out that people wanted to follow me and writing was therapeutic for me. Kind of like group therapy, with the biggest group of supporters I've never met. I haven't updated my personal blog for a few months and it's still getting hundreds of hits. Go figure!

Wedding Countdown | Skagit County Wedding Photographer

I apologize for my absence from the Bella Vita Creative blog, but, if any of you out there have ever planned a wedding, you may understand. I've been nose-to-the-grindstone busy with helping plan all the wedding details for my daughter's wedding, everything from designing the Save-The-Date cards and wedding invitations to putting together the reception slideshow (still yet to be done)! I've been surprised that THE most time-consuming task is research. Yes, researching vendors for everything under the sun and where to buy everything wedding-related. The Etsy website has been my biggest goldmine; I've found lots of unique creations there, including wedding streamers and a fascinator for my hair. Who knew?!
