Hard to believe 2014 is now but a memory, but, thankfully, I have lots of photos and video to remember the year!
I was blessed to photograph many wonderful families, couples, babies, and individuals. My head is spinning with what a joy it is to be a photographer!
It's hard to put into words how much I enjoy photography and what a gift it has been to me in this season of my life.
I have always loved visual beauty, especially in design and photography. It's a passion I've had my whole life, but I never stopped to really pay attention until after what happened in 2008.
It's now two days after Christmas 2013 and I'm more jazzed than ever. In two weeks (God willing), I plan to be in Phoenix for the largest photography conference in the United States. The commitment and financial sacrifice to attend ImagingUSA is one more step in the direction of kicking Bella Vita Creative (and myself) up a notch.
I'm so excited to finally share photos from the incredible vintage wedding shoot, sponsored by Beyond the Wanderlust, near Portland, Oregon!
The shoot was held at an amazing 1890 Victorian estate called Clackamas River Farm, surrounded by pastoral land and old growth trees. Ee-gads! Nirvana for photographers!
This post is long overdue; I'm so excited to share these photos with everyone!
Last April, I attended a photography workshop hosted by the incredible Holli True, located in Eugene, Oregon. For two full days, I collaborated with five other photographers in hands-on learning for our photography businesses.
It's not every day that a photographer gets to capture maternity photos of her own daughter and son-in-law, but that's exactly what I was privileged to do recently. I met up with Ariel and James (and their sweet dog, Nick), for a late afternoon shoot. Of course, we had to include Nick in their family photo as well.

For those who don't know, I live in the Pacific Northwest—Washington state, to be exact. I was born and raised here, so I'm used to the rain for which Washington is known.
I have been ‘chomping at the bit' to attend a photography conference for quite some time. Not only am I interested in the technical information I might add to my repertoire, but I also want to get to know some of my fellow photographers in the Skagit/Whatcom county areas. So, a month ago, I paid a very nominal fee to attend a photography conference in March called Photo Lush in Bellingham, Washington.
It's no secret to anyone who knows me that I'm in the process of getting my photography business off the ground, mostly since last September. Sometimes I get discouraged that it isn't happening fast enough, but then I have to remind myself that, a little over a year ago, I couldn't have imagined doing the photo shoots I've done the last few months. So, onward and upward, I say!
Last September, I was honored to photograph the very first Skagit River Salmon Festival event in Mount Vernon, Washington. I was jazzed to do so for a variety of reasons. First, I love salmon! And I think it's important to ensure that we conserve the amazing natural resources of my home town's beautiful Skagit River.
I'm so glad I finally get to share these photos with everyone!
It was a frosty, sunny November morning when I met Christine for her senior photos. The grass was frozen and gave the background a tundra-like appearance. The sun was glistening off of all the foliage and it really was a remarkably beautiful day.
I've known Travis for the last seven years and I don't know what happened, but he grew up! One day he was a kid and the next, he's getting senior photos . . . what the?! Especially because of that connection, I was honored to take his photos.
Glorious fall leaves, a sunny, crisp October day, and a beautiful family with a super cute kid . . . it all adds up to one fun and memorable family session at Hovander Park! For a photographer, it doesn't get any better than that.
Okay, I admit it. My favorite season is the fall--ever since I was a kid. I think it has something to do with new beginnings (school in September), followed by my birthday (October), Thanksgiving (November), and leading into Christmas (December)! For a kid, that's all kinds of excitement!
As you can tell by viewing these photos, Kendra really rocked her senior shoot! She brought along her dog, so we even managed to get a photo of the two of them before we were done, too.
Kendra is also a photographer and takes some pretty awesome photos as well. She looks very natural carrying that camera around, I must say.
I was honored to be asked to take photos of the Paschal (Easter) celebration at Saint Andrew Orthodox Church in Arlington, Washington last weekend!
The Orthodox celebrate Pascha (Easter) on a different calendar than Western Christians (bear in mind that Christianity started out as an Eastern religion).
What a lovely young couple! So much fun! James and Ariel are completely adorable!
Er . . . I should be completely honest . . . while all of the above is true, in the interest of full disclosure, I should also mention that one half of this beautiful couple is a close relative (as in daughter)!
